Up to £15.5 million is now available through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly (CIOS) for projects that will provide support to small and medium sized enterprises by promoting entrepreneurship and increasing the provision of high quality workspace.
The funding forms part of the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Growth Programme, delivering economic regeneration from 2014-2020.
The call invites applications which support the delivery of Priority Axis 3 of the European Regional Development Fund Operational Programme (Enhancing the Competitiveness of Small and Medium Sized Enterprises) and respond to the local development need set out in the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Integrated Territorial Investment Strategy.
Low commercial property values and high development costs have for many years rendered commercial property development unviable in all but a few prime locations. As a result, many businesses are located in outdated accommodation, often not suiting their requirements or their aspirations.
This call aims to increase the availability of high quality workspaces in CIOS and provide market led, high quality, modern and well located workspaces. It prioritises projects that focus on the creation of new, high value knowledge based jobs with higher than average salaries for CIOS, and located within the newly created workspaces.
Proposals should demonstrate alignment with local development need and priorities including:
- Complementing the existing portfolio of workspace provision in the CIOS LEP area;
- Complementing and linking to wider business support activities already available such as the CIOS Growth Hub
- Building on previous investments in infrastructure, workspaces should have access to superfast broadband;
This call is looking to promote entrepreneurship, and the creation of new firms, including through business incubators. It also encourages the creation and extension of advanced capacities for products, services and development. The overarching aim being the enhancement of the competitiveness of small and medium sized businesses across CIOS.
