Long Rock Strategic Coastal Improvements

Mounts Bay, Cornwall

Applicant: Cornwall Council

Long Rock Strategic Coastal Improvements project will have long term economic and environmental benefits, protecting land and properties and sites for future development.

The project addresses the most vulnerable sections of the Mount’s Bay coastal frontage by upgrading the revetment which is susceptible to overtopping and potential breach.  These coastal defence works, which were completed in August 2019, provide protection to commercial and residential buildings and infrastructure including the mainline railway and the A30.

Improved water storage capacity is also being created at Long Rock Pool in Marazion Marsh by removing contaminated sediment, installing silt traps and dune creation.

The project will install fish and eel passes in local streams, allowing fish and eels to migrate upstream from the sea.
