The global space and aerospace sectors are experiencing exciting changes, and growing rapidly, with increased focus from industry and Government. Many of the advances in coming years will require innovative products, services and technologies, and as one of the most capable regions of the UK, the South West will develop some of these.

Cornwall Development Company are managing the AeroSpace Cornwall programme, which is a funding vehicle that promotes research, development and innovation (RD&I) across Cornwall. We offer technical and commercial support for businesses looking to develop products, services and technologies which could add competitive advantage to the aerospace and space sectors.

We can help your business with the following:

• Understanding the market opportunity – we can support you to go and meet potential customers, suppliers and experts to confirm if your product or service is commercially viable. Want to visit a trade show? Need to meet a supplier? Grants of up to 10k are available for this.
• Developing the product – Match funding for R&D projects with capital purchases and salaries – typical funding is an average of £150K. Need to work with a knowledge provider? We can make introductions on your behalf.
• Need to buy kit? We can offer small grants for purchases
• Supplying the market – We can offer you support for up to 20 hours of expert advice to ensure your product or service can be supplied to your target audience. Do you need an ISO certification? Our team of R&D technology mentors can take you through the process.  What about specialist space industry advice? We know the right people.
• Want to expand into Cornwall? We can pay for feasibility studies, travel assistance and promotional activities.

We aim to secure investment from global collaborators and investors as potential end users of the products, services and technology developed with our support and funding. In addition, it will increase the performance and competitiveness of local businesses, create highly skilled jobs and launch new products into the marketplace.

By encouraging Cornwall businesses to collaborate with other businesses and research institutions across the UK and beyond, we will create an ‘innovation environment’ for the space and aerospace sectors. This will increase the size and capability of the space and aerospace sectors in Cornwall, and secure ongoing investment in them.

Our areas of focus include: advanced engineering in aerospace, unmanned aerial systems (UAS), digital technologies such as embedded software and software applications using satellite communications, earth observation, navigation and meteorology.  We work with a broad mix of businesses from many different sectors, such as mining, manufacturing, software, and technology, and all have a link to space or aerospace.
