As the future of work rapidly evolves and organisations integrate people, technology, alternative workforces and new ways of working, leaders are wrestling with an increasing range of ethical challenges.

The Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Skills Hub is at the forefront of preparing the Cornish workforce of tomorrow, with a series of events this September set to look at how businesses and individuals alike can plan to move forward when the future remains so uncertain.

While juggling the combining of man and machine will be a major part of future business strategy, a successful business should also have people and the planet at the forefront of its future thinking.

On 28 September the Skills Hub event Building the Workforce of Tomorrow will discuss, debate and map out how businesses can be best prepared for what lies ahead.

The free event will feature a keynote address from future working specialist, Dr Paul Redmond, alongside key figures from the business, innovation and skills sectors in Cornwall. Delegates can join the debate in person at St Austell Conference Centre or online as the event will be streamed live.

Skills Hub Project Manager, Bethany Allen, said that while future challenges will be especially noticeable at the crossroads between humans and technology, there are other areas where we may be faced with a new range of ethical dilemmas.

“It could be easy to look at this and say ‘this won’t be of concern to me’, but the Skills Hub believe that it would be well worth re-thinking this.

“Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly prides itself on its close-knit business community, alongside its passion for sustainability and protecting the planet. We need to be asking ourselves how we can link people and planet with future prosperity, with our events in September focusing on the key touch points for building the Cornish workforce of the future,” she said.

With additional online events across 29 and 30 September and 1 October focusing on sustainability, cyber-security and a session on how to access the right skills for tomorrow, the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Skills Hub will get businesses moving from ‘could we’ to ‘how should we’ when approaching these emerging questions on what makes a successful business.
